Week 14

May 5th – May 12th

This week, I edited about 80% of my travel vlog. When I was putting it together, I realized I had about 20 minutes of footage that I had to edit down to 4 minutes, which was pretty difficult. I felt like all the videos I took deserved to have a place in the vlog, but that just wasn’t possible unfortunately.

I had a small issue the first day I actually sat down and started editing. The editing app I purchased for this project was called “Filmmaker Pro” and it cost a few dollars (I don’t remember the exact price), but it kept freezing and closing me out of the app every time I tried to insert or cut something out. Eventually I just got so frustrated and deleted the app, switching to iMovie, which I know to be reliable. iMovie is a great editing app, and I would have used that if it weren’t for Filmmaker Pro’s option to change the frame size. I had plans to change the frame size to make it appear more professional and movie-like, but iMovie does not have this feature.

Even though I had 20 minutes of footage all together, I went through my camera role before editing and picked out my absolute favorite videos I took at each place, putting those in a separate video. This one was only 5 minutes long, and it was quite easy to edit it down. Still, my video came up about 40 seconds short of the end of the song I chose. I would just add in more clips in the beginning and middle, but I’m so happy with where it is now and how the transitions look that I don’t want to touch it.

It’s essential that I go somewhere, anywhere, sometime this week so I can add a few longer clips in at the end to finish the song. The song I chose is called ‘Golden Years’ by Ruel and I think it fits the tone of my video perfectly. I’m also very proud of how I made the transitions fit into a lot of the bass drops in the song. It all looks very smooth.

I’ve had a couple of people watch what I have done of the video and they all seem to like it. I hope that my final product will be perfect by the time I present it next Monday.
