March 31st – April 7th
This Saturday, my whole family and I went to Gatlinburg and visited Clingmans Dome, the highest point in Tennessee at 6,643 feet. We left at around 1:00 and arrived roughly around 3:00 because we had to make a few stops on the way. I’ve never really seen mountains before (since I was born and raised in Florida) so it was amazing to see them up close once we were at the top. The place where we parked was about 0.5 miles from the observation deck, meaning we had to walk up a very steep incline for about 15 minutes. It started to get harder for my grandma to walk, so she stayed behind on a bench while me, my mom, and my sister in law and niece walked the rest of the way up. It was hard, but the views were worth it.
Once we were at the top in the observation deck, we stayed for a few minutes while everyone took pictures and videos, and then we headed back down. Going down was definitely easier than going up, and we got back to our car in no time.
It was really nice having another family day like this, seeing as how we haven’t had one in a few weeks. I know everyone had a lot of fun seeing the Great Smokey Mountains, including me. I will always love and prefer the beach and the ocean, but there’s just something about being in the mountains that I can’t help but fall in love with.
